American trotter (also called as standard bred) is an american horse used in trotting and pacing. American trotters have short legs, solid colors, plain head and about 15.2 hands high, noted for speed and stamina.

American trotters are typically weighs 408 to 544. They are considered people-oriented, easy-to-train horses and originated from Thoroughbred, Hackney and Morgan horse. American trotters have heavier built, more muscled and longer than the Thoroughbred.They also are of more placid dispositions, as suits horses whose races involve more strategy and more changes of speed than do Thoroughbred races.
